A light wintry mix of snow, sleet, and rain will overspread the area this evening. Snow and sleet may coat the ground. Rain may freeze on some elevated surfaces. Precipitation will transition to rain through the later part of the evening. Temperatures in the lower 30s will rise into the middle 30s by later this evening. Slick spots are possible, especially on elevated and untreated surfaces including bridges and overpasses. Significant ice accumulations around one-quarter of an inch are expected. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Shenandoah Valley and Potomac Highlands through 4 AM Thursday. A Winter Weather Advisory is also in effect through 7 PM this evening for portions of the Virginia foothills. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday There is a slight winter storm threat on Saturday for the threat of freezing rain. If this threat materializes, travel impacts may occur. Moderate to heavy rainfall is possible Saturday through Sunday. The rain combined with melting snow may lead to instances of flooding.
