Mix of precipitation forecast for much of eastern, southern U.S.

A system moving across the Great Lakes will bring a mix of precipitation from the southern Plains to New England on Tuesday. Rain is forecast from TX across the Southeast and into the mid-Atlantic, with freezing rain, sleet and/or mixed precipitation from the Midwest across the Ohio Valley and Central Appalachians. Snow is forecast from the northern Plains across the Great Lakes into New England.

  • SynopsisA WEAK TO OCCASIONALLY MODERATE ONSHORE FLOW WILL PERSIST THROUGH TONIGHT. AREAS OF DENSE FOG ARE LIKELY TO CONTINUE ACROSS MUCH OF THE MIDDLE TEXAS COASTAL WATERS TONIGHT AS WARM MOIST AIR FLOWS OVER THE COOLER SHELF WATERS. CHANCES FOR RAIN WILL BEGIN TO INCREASE WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT AHEAD OF A POWERFUL COLD FRONT. THE FRONT WILL BLAST SOUTH ACROSS ALL MARINE AREAS WEDNESDAY NIGHT WITH A PERIOD OF VERY STRONG NORTHERLY FLOW AND GUSTS TO GALE FORCE POSSIBLE LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT INTO THURSDAY. MARINE CONDITIONS WILL ONLY SLOWLY IMPROVE BY LATE THURSDAY INTO FRIDAY.
  • Rest Of Tonight South wind 10 to 15 knots. Seas 3 to 4 feet with occasional seas up to 5 feet. Areas of dense fog.
  • Wednesday South wind 10 to 15 knots. Seas 3 to 5 feet with occasional seas up to 6 feet. A slight chance of light rain in the morning...then a slight chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon.
  • Wednesday Night Southeast wind 10 to 15 knots becoming north 25 to 30 knots after midnight.
