Effective July 7, 2015, NWS will implement changes to the icons depicted on all of its Point Forecast pages. Highlights will include new icons with increased clarity, 6-hour increments for rapidly changing weather and new color blocks to highlight forecast hazards.

A stormy Friday expected for parts of the central and southern U.S.

Heavy rain, flash flooding and thunderstorms are expected on Friday, from the Southern Plains to the Tennessee Valley. Some of the storms may become severe in the afternoon and evening, especially in the ArkLaTex region and parts of the Lower Mississippi Valley. Primary hazards will be isolated damaging winds gusts and hail. The Central High Plains and the Carolinas could also see strong storms.
