Winds were out of the southwest under partly to mostly clear skies. Warm weather is expected across the state today, with highs reaching into the upper 80s to low 90s. Southwest winds during the day will increase with gusts upwards of 20-25 mph, isolated to 30 mph at times. Dry weather is at least expected for the rest of the morning, before showers and storms move into northern Iowa and gradually push across the state this afternoon to evening. Following this activity, additional storms are possible later this evening and into Thursday. Overall, the main hazards would be large hail and damaging winds, though a tornado or two cannot be ruled out mainly over northern Iowa. Tonight and beyond: Lingering storms are possible overnight into Thursday, mainly over the eastern half of the state. Overnight lows are expected to fall into the 60s to low 70s. Additional showers and storms are possible Thursday morning, though the best chance will be in the afternoon to evening with the potential for strong to severe storms in southern to eastern Iowa. Damaging winds and hail would be the primary threats once again, while a tornado or two cannot be ruled out. Slightly warmer temperatures in the 80s to mid 90s are expected into the afternoon, along with heat indices in to upper 90s over southern Iowa. Dry conditions return Friday, and slightly cooler in the 80s. Active weather looks to continue through the weekend with additional chances for on and off showers and storms, along with very warm temperatures in the 80s to mid 90s. $$
