Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
343 AM CDT Fri Jun 7 2024

Today:

High pressure was passing through the Missouri River Valley early this
morning with much lighter winds across Iowa overnight. Winds were
generally light from the west across the state under clear skies. This
has allowed temperatures to drop into the 50s in most locations early
this morning. Mostly sunny conditions are forecast for this morning
prior to increasing clouds this afternoon ahead of an approaching
system. A few showers are anticipated across portions of northern Iowa
by later this afternoon as the light west winds become southeast.
Highs are expected to rebound back into the mid 70s to mid 80s by this
afternoon.

Tonight and beyond:

The system passing through the Plains arrives in Iowa tonight. This
is expected to spread showers and thunderstorms into the state with
the highest coverage across southwest portions of Iowa. A few strong
to possibly severe storms will be possible in far southwest Iowa this
evening along with the potential for locally heavy rainfall. Elsewhere
in the state, the activity is expected to be much more scattered with
light amounts of rainfall. Slightly cooler air arrives into Saturday
with some lingering clouds and a few isolated showers possible
although most locations are expected to remain dry. Quiet weather is
forecast into Sunday with seasonal temperatures.
