Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Elko NV
110 PM PDT Sun May 26 2024

.SYNOPSIS...Relatively quiet weather is expected through Memorial
Day with with light winds and only a slight chance for afternoon
showers across portions of central Nevada and the Ruby Mountains
Monday afternoon. Southwest winds increase Saturday ahead of a
weak disturbance that will bring a few showers and thunderstorms
to northern and northeastern Nevada Tuesday and Wednesday. Dry
conditions will follow and temperatures rebounding from the lower
70s Thursday to the 80s by the weekend.

&&

.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Monday night

A building ridge of high pressure will promote warmer temperatures
on Monday across the area with highs reaching into the 70s and
lower 80s after morning lows in the 40s. Winds will be light
Monday. Residual mid-level moisture and daytime heating will
promote late morning and afternoon cumulus development across
portions of central and northeastern Nevada with a few light
showers expected mainly in the mountains. Chances for any rain are
less than 20%. Gusty outflow winds will be the primary impact with
showers that develop as lower levels remain quite dry. Quiet
Monday night as well with lows dropping into the 40s and 50s.

.LONG TERM...Tuesday through next Sunday

Tuesday, a negatively tilted trough will progress across the
Pacific Northwest. Some isolated to scattered showers and isolated
thunderstorms will be possible across portions of Northern
Nevada, Southern Idaho, and Northwest Utah. Activity looks to
mainly be confined north of I-80 in Elko county. Rainfall amounts
look to remain fairly light, with only a few hundredths forecast.
Highs will be in the upper 70s to mid 80s for much of the area,
with lows in the mid to upper 40s. Once the trough progresses off
to the north and east, some weak ridging takes its place. This
will ensure dry weather returns to the state for the remainder of
the week with mostly sunny to partly cloudy conditions and
temperatures in the 70s warming into the 80s by next weekend.
Winds will be breezy Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, with west
to northwesterly winds 15-20 mph with gusts to 30 mph at times.
