FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN
National Weather Service Marquette MI
528 AM EDT Fri May 31 2024

...Showers and thunderstorms arrive over western Upper Michigan
today while eastern Upper Michigan has very low afternoon RH...

.DISCUSSION: An approaching, but weakening cold front, will spread
showers and some thunderstorms into western Upper Michigan today.
Meanwhile, a lingering dry air mass to the east combined with
temperatures rising into the lower 70s will lead to RH falling into
the 20 to 30 percent range over eastern Upper Michigan this
afternoon. South to southwest winds in that area will gust to 15
to 20 mph. Showers and thunderstorms will remain confined to
western Upper Michigan tonight before spreading eastward Saturday
into Saturday evening. Over western Upper Michigan where showers
are most persistent, there is 30-40 percent chance that rainfall
amounts will locally exceed 1 inch by late Saturday, but
generally, rainfall amounts should range from 0.3 to 0.75 inches.
Rainfall amounts will likely tail off into eastern Upper
Michigan with coverage of showers also less than over the west.
No rain is expected on Sunday as a high pressure ridge passes.
Additional opportunities for rainfall are expected next week,
centered on late Sunday night and Monday and on Tuesday night and
Wednesday.
