Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Aberdeen SD

.DISCUSSION...

High pressure center moves in this morning, bringing light winds and
drier conditions along with it. Afternoon humidity will remain
upwards of 50 percent, which combined with light winds leaves little
concern for hazardous fire weather conditions today.

Winds strengthen and turn northwesterly behind a dry cold front
Sunday afternoon. The strongest winds are expected over north
central South Dakota, with gusts reaching 30-40 miles per hour at
their peak. These winds bring a bit of an increase in dew points
with them (from the low 30s increasing to the upper 30s to lower
40s), but the minimum afternoon humidity will reach down into the
mid-30s percent due to a warmup bringing afternoon temperatures into
the mid-60s. This combo will cause elevated grassland fire danger
concerns Sunday afternoon, mainly over north central South Dakota.

...MODERATE FIRE DANGER...

Marginal weather conditions or lowering moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that there is
some potential for a fire to spread. Any outdoor burning should be
closely monitored.

The outlook for Sunday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the very high category.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture content of grasses,
and other dry organic material on the ground, indicate that the
probability of a fast moving fire is low. Outdoor burning under
these conditions can usually be performed with reasonable safety
precautions, but should be monitored.

The outlook for Sunday afternoon...The grassland fire danger index
will reach the moderate category.
