...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1950, 2 strong tornadoes struck extreme west central
Illinois just east of St.  Louis.  An F3 twister had a
track 22 miles long, averaged around 200 yards wide,
killed 2, injured 25 and caused around $550,000 damage.
One hour earlier, an F2 twister cut a very narrow track
around 50 yards wide, but was 18 miles long.  It too was
deadly, as it killed one and injured 3 near the end of
its path.
