675 FXUS65 KVEF 152337 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 437 PM PDT Wed Oct 15 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * Scattered showers this afternoon and cold overnight temperatures in Lincoln County, with the first freeze of the season expected. * Dry and pleasant weather conditions are expected through the weekend, with cool temperatures gradually returning to seasonal normals. && .DISCUSSION...through early next week. The cold area of low pressure will exit Lincoln County to the east and into Utah early this evening taking with it any lingering shower activity. With skies clearing out and winds diminishing tonight will be the coldest night of the period for most locations and particularly in Lincoln County where the first freeze of the year is expected tonight at locations such as Caliente, Pioche and Rachel. Northerly winds will be the rule on Thursday behind the low and a secondary much weaker weather system will push through the area Thursday night enhancing the north winds down the Colorado River Valley for Friday. Otherwise, temperatures will be trending higher into the weekend but remain below their seasonal normals through at least Friday. Another weak system on Sunday night into Monday may enhance winds and lower temperatures a few degrees but conditions should remain dry through the period. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Light and variable winds will veer to the northwest, remaining under 8KT through mid to late evening, before backing to the southwest. Winds remain light thereafter, veering to the north after daybreak, and to northeast by early afternoon, settling into typical diurnal directional patterns with a southwesterly shift expected around sunset Thursday. VFR conditions with clear skies will prevail. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Showers over portions of Lincoln and northern Mohave County will diminish and move out of the area this evening, while gusty west-northwesterly winds will persist through portions of the Colorado River Valley and the western Mojave Desert through sunset. Overnight, winds will become light areawide, favoring a northwesterly direction for most though variability between southwest and northwest can be expected in the Las Vegas Valley and across the western Mojave. Winds will shift to the north and northeast areawide late morning into the afternoon, generally remaining around 8KT or less, with the exception of the Colorado River Valley where terrain will favor gusts to 15-25KT in the afternoon. VFR conditions prevail. && .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating procedures. && $$ DISCUSSION...Czyzyk AVIATION...Phillipson For more forecast information...see us on our webpage: https://weather.gov/lasvegas or follow us on Facebook and Twitter
