594 FXUS65 KVEF 242130 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 130 PM PST Mon Nov 24 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... * Near-normal temperatures, mostly sunny skies, and afternoon northerly breezes will characterize the week ahead until a pattern shift over the weekend returns dynamic weather to the region. && .DISCUSSION...through Sunday. Broad high pressure ridge will dominate the southwestern US through Thanksgiving day with seasonably mild temperatures and generally light winds expected. A weak shortwave will move through the northwest flow aloft Tuesday and Wednesday, resulting in enhanced pressure gradients across the Great Basin and boosting northerly winds down the Colorado River Valley, but overall these winds will be fairly isolated to areas near Laughlin. If planning to recreate on Lake Mohave this week, check the forecast before heading out, as wave heights in excess of 1.5 feet could create hazardous boating conditions for small craft. By Friday and into the weekend, a pattern shift will take place as a trough develops across the Great Basin and digs southward. Confidence is high that a return to cooler than normal and gusty conditions will accompany this pattern change, while precipitation potential remains more uncertain. Given the much colder air associated with this system, low snow levels and post-holiday travel will be a concern, but confidence in details remains low so keep checking the forecast as the pattern evolution becomes more clear. && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Light winds favoring typical daily diurnal trends are expected through the TAF period. Skies will be mostly clear outside of passing high clouds. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 00Z Forecast Package...Light and diurnal winds will continue area wide through this evening, with speeds generally remaining below 8 kts for most regional TAF sites.
