Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
356 AM CDT Sat Jul 15 2017

.DISCUSSION...
Summer-time heat and humidity will persist across region through
early next week, although areas toward the James River Valley and
central South Dakota will see lower humidity levels, as low as 25
to 35 percent during the afternoon through Monday. Despite the
lower humidity west of the James River, grassland fire danger
levels will remain moderate due to relatively light wind speeds
through Sunday. Increasing southerly winds on Monday will push the
fire danger into the high category in some areas. Chances for at
least spotty precipitation will return to the region Monday night,
and continue through the upcoming week.

...MODERATE FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the moderate
category this afternoon. Marginal weather conditions or a
moderate moisture content of grasses and other dry organic
material on the ground...indicate that there is some potential
for a fire occurrence. Do not leave outdoor fires unattended
under these conditions.

OUTLOOK FOR SUNDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the moderate to high category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category
this afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture
content of grasses and other dry organic material on the
ground indicate that the probability of a fire occurrence is low.
Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be performed
with reasonable safety precautions.

OUTLOOK FOR SUNDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the low category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.
