731 FXUS64 KOHX 100749 AFDOHX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Nashville TN 249 AM CDT Fri May 10 2024 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM... .SHORT TERM... (Today through Saturday) Issued at 145 AM CDT Fri May 10 2024 Other than a few stray showers over our northeastern counties this afternoon, the short term forecast is quiet. Much drier and cooler air moved in after the cold front passed yesterday, so this afternoon will feel very pleasant. Any showers that develop from a fast moving shortwave will be light and focused mainly over the Cumberland Plateau this afternoon. This wave will likely bring northwest winds around 10 to 15 mph today, but these will calm down overnight tonight. A surface low traversing the Great Lakes region will drag the tail end of a cold front through the Tennessee Valley on Saturday, allowing for another brief shot of scattered light showers that day. While we could see surface winds turn southerly Saturday morning, they should return to a cooler northwest wind by the afternoon and evening. && .LONG TERM... (Saturday Night through next Friday) Issued at 145 AM CDT Fri May 10 2024 Saturday night into Sunday the upper trough will push east of us and we`ll see some weak ridging develop as we head into Sunday. This will boost afternoon temperatures close to 80 in some places. Rain returns as early as Monday morning as that ridging quickly moves east and a surface low heads our way out of the Central Plains. Showers and storms remain in the forecast through the day on Tuesday. For now, just general storms expected both of those days...but the path of the aforementioned low will come into play concerning any possible strong storms on Tuesday. For now, the threat looks low. There should be a break in the precip sometime late Wednesday and Thursday, but another system quickly moves in toward the end of the work week. Temperatures remain warm for the last half of the week, maxing out around 80 each afternoon. && .AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 123 AM CDT Fri May 10 2024 VFR conditions currently, but a period of low cigs may move in by 11Z at CKV progressing southeastward to SRB by 15Z. Conditions should improve areawide back to VFR by 18Z. Winds will remain from the N/NW, becoming gusty around 15 to 20 kts in the afternoon. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
