Public Information Statement
National Weather Service Lincoln IL
334 PM CDT TUE JUL 12 2016

Last week, we installed new equipment to operate the 9 NOAA
Weather Radio transmitters that originate from our office. The new
system, referred to as the Broadcast Message Handler, replaced
late 1990s-era equipment that has undergone little change since
that time.

The pronunciation dictionaries for the new synthesized voice were
programmed for cities and towns in the broadcast area, and the new
system operated in an off-line mode over the weekend while we

While the pronunciations of cities and towns were thoroughly
tested, some may have slipped through the cracks. Please relay any
mispronunciations to our office by either sending an E-mail to, or by calling 217-732-3089 between 8:30
am and 4 pm daily.
