Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Las Vegas NV
1218 PM PDT Tue Apr 16 2024

.SYNOPSIS...High pressure will result in an extended period of
warm weather across the region. Well above normal temperatures,
breezy afternoon winds, and dry conditions are expected through the
early part of next week.
&&

.SHORT TERM...through Wednesday night. Late morning satellite loop
showed the mean ridge position nosing in from the Pacific. Skies
were mostly clear over our CWA, with a batch of thin cirrus
approaching in northerly flow on the front side of the ridge.
Surface obs showed temperatures around 10 degrees warmer than 24
hours ago and light winds areawide. Still expecting tranquil weather
through the period with the warming trend continuing. 13Z NBM from
this morning gives KLAS a 31% chance of reaching 90F Wednesday, with
higher chances in the long term period.

.LONG TERM...Thursday through Monday.

Dry and mild conditions will prevail through the long term period as
high pressure will remain anchored over the region. There will be
some passing high clouds Thursday and Friday related to an
offshore low pressure system getting absorbed into the westerly
flow aloft that will prevail over the region, but the clouds
shouldn`t be substancial enough to cost us much more than a
degree or two on the afternoon highs. Regardless, temperatures
will remain several degrees above normal. The ridging through the
end of the week will be fairly subtle and low amplitude, but will
amplify Sunday and Monday across the Southwestern states, with
temperatures responding with additional warming. NBM probabilities
now exceed 50 percent for reaching 90 degrees in Las Vegas Sunday
and Monday, with the more likely day being Sunday with ~60
percent chances. In addition to the warm temperatures, daily
afternoon breezes can be expected, but nothing strong enough to
warrant headlines.

direction through the afternoon with speeds generally less than 7

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwestern Arizona, and
southeastern California...The area will lie under a dry northwest
flow during the period with some passing mid/high clouds at times.

to northeast direction. Tonight, light downslope winds develop.
