Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Joaquin Valley - Hanford CA
825 AM PDT Thu Jul 27 2017

.SYNOPSIS...Above normal temperatures will be present through at
least the middle of next week. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms
will be possible over the central and southern Sierra Nevada
through next week and over the desert beginning Sunday.

.DISCUSSION...Upper level high pressure over the four corners
region will be the dominating weather feature over the next week.
This will result in above normal temperatures across central
California. Temperatures will generally be between 3 and 5 degrees
above normal for the end of July and beginning of August.

Otherwise...very little thunderstorm activity was observed across
the Sierra Nevada and desert the past few days...and this activity
is forecast to decrease even more today and Friday. An isolated
shower or thunderstorm is not out of the question...however
forecast confidence is low given the high res models are keeping
all activity to the east of the Sierra Crest.

Thunderstorm coverage will increase Sunday into early next week as
monsoonal moisture moves northwest into the area. However...the
bulk of the moisture looks to remain south and east of the area.
The GFS has backed off on the amount of moisture streaming into
the area compared to 24 hours ago. Either way...we will continue
to monitor the mid level RH trends and update the forecast

Lastly...not much relief in store when it comes to heat for the
area. According to the Climate Prediction Centers 8 to 14 day
outlook which is valid from August 3rd through 9th...there is a
high probability of above normal temperatures for all of

Areas of MVFR visibilities in smoke from the Detwiler wildfire near
Mariposa County. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible near the
crest of the Sierra Nevada after 19z Thursday. Otherwise, VFR
conditions will prevail across the central CA interior during the
next 24 hours.

On Thursday July 27 2017... Unhealthy for sensitive groups in Kern
County. Additionally...please see SFOAQAHNX for an Air Quality Alert.
