AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION FOR AMERICAN SAMOA AND INDEPENDENT SAMOA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PAGO PAGO AS
203 PM SST THU SEP 3 2015

.SHORT TERM...
TONIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT...SATELLITE IMAGERIES SHOW A FEW
LOW CLOUDS OVER THE ISLANDS. RAOB FROM THIS AFTERNOON DEPICTS
STABLE PROFILE. MODELS SUGGEST THAT STABLE WEATHER PATTERNS WILL
PERSIST ACROSS THE ISLANDS DURING THE SHORT TERM. RIDGE OF HIGH
PRESSURE TO THE SOUTH AND SOUTHEAST IS SLOWLY MOVING EAST. A
SURFACE TROUGH TO THE FAR NORTHEAST WILL REMAIN NEARLY STATIONARY
IN THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. THEREFORE...EXPECT ISOLATED SHOWERS AND
BREEZY EAST WINDS DURING THE FORECAST PERIOD.

.LONG TERM...
SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY...A WEAK SURFACE TROUGH WILL DEVELOP TO
THE SOUTHWEST AND SOUTH OF THE ISLANDS ON SUNDAY. EAST WINDS WILL
DIMINISH TO LIGHT AND VARIABLE ON SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH MONDAY
NIGHT. ANOTHER STRONG HIGH PRESSURE APPROACHING FROM THE SOUTHWEST
WILL ESCALATE AND SHIFT WINDS TO BREEZY SOUTHEAST ON TUESDAY
NIGHT. EXPECT ISOLATED SHOWERS TO PERSIST THROUGH THE LONG TERM.

&&

.MARINE...
ROUGH SEAS OF 7 TO 9 FT WILL PERSIST ACROSS COASTAL WATERS AND
SOUTHERN SHORELINES TONIGHT. SEAS WILL SUBSIDE BELOW ADVISORY
LEVELS ON FRIDAY AFTERNOON.
