After record breaking heat today and mostly dry conditions, a brief surge of moisture and slightly cooler temperatures will arrive on Friday along with more showers and thunderstorms. Many locations are forecast to receive measurable rainfall with more soaking amounts concentrated over the Sangre de Cristos and nearby highlands into the east central plains. Breezy to locally windy conditions will also prevail Friday with stronger gusts accompanying the shower and thunderstorm activity. The opportunity for rain will quickly exit, as the hot and drier conditions will return this weekend. Temperatures will turn more seasonable during the first half of next week, however concerns are growing for a more prolonged breezy to windy period Monday through Wednesday which could lead to elevated or critical fire weather with dry conditions and low humidity returning.
