Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
217 PM MDT Wed Jun 19 2024

.SHORT TERM...Tonight through Friday night...Rapid warming to
continue through Thursday. Latest models show slight instability
along the NV/ID border Thursday afternoon and night, but too
weak for thunderstorms. Slower warming expected Friday as a
weak Pacific upper trough moves inland north of our CWA. Light
diurnal winds through the period.

.LONG TERM...Saturday through Wednesday...Hotter Saturday as the
weak northern trough exits east and an upper ridge builds over
our area with WSW-ly flow aloft. Still looks like around 100
degrees in the Treasure Valley Saturday afternoon, with 90s in
other valleys and 80s in the mountains. A stronger upper trough
from the Gulf of Alaska will move onto the BC coast Saturday
night, with a surface cold front approaching northern Idaho.
Instability ahead of the front may develop high-based
thunderstorms north of Baker County Saturday night, but with
lower levels staying dry storms would bring gusty winds but
little or no rain. The upper trough will shear eastward across
northern Idaho Sunday with little cooling reaching our CWA,
i.e., highs still in the 90s in the valleys and 80s in the
mountains. Hot, dry weather will continue through Wednesday,
but models show a stronger Gulf of Alaska trough coming inland
for a cooling trend late in the week.
