Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
409 AM CDT Mon Jun 3 2024

Today:

Showers and storms have been working their way across the state west
to east early this morning. Although most have been sub-severe, at
least one in northwest Iowa had some severe (1.25 inch) hail and
others with gusty winds of 30-40 mph, as observed near the
Iowa/Nebraska border closer to Omaha. As these storms continue to push
eastward this morning, they should continue to diminish with time
making it so not everyone in the eastern half of the state will see
precipitation this morning with the bulk of current activity (as of 4
AM) across northern Iowa, though there are a few showers or storms in
parts of east central to southeast Iowa as well.

After the lingering showers/storms move out this morning, additional
isolated shower/storm development is possible at times, but the bulk
of any more pronounced storm development looks to be over far eastern
Iowa this afternoon into early evening. A few storms closer to the
Iowa/Illinois/Wisconsin border could be strong to severe with strong
wind gusts and large hail the primary threats with the strongest
storms. Highs today will be in the upper 70s to 80s across the state
with winds out of the south to southwest up to 10 to 15 mph, and gusts
up to 20 to 25 mph, the highest gusts in far eastern Iowa, though
higher gusts are certainly possible with storms.

Tonight and beyond:

A few showers or non-severe storms may linger into tonight, mainly
east, with low temperatures in the 60s. Attention then turns to
Tuesday which will bring the next chance for more widespread storms
which may be strong to severe along with locally heavy rainfall.
Temperatures Tuesday into the end of the week look to remain in the
70s to 80s with drier conditions expected for most Wednesday into
Friday.
