Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Huntsville AL
858 PM CDT Sun Sep 15 2024

...New NEAR TERM...

.NEAR TERM...
(Tonight)
Issued at 858 PM CDT Sun Sep 15 2024

Stray showers continue to push northwestward through the TN Valley
tonight, producing light precipitation through the I-65 corridor
and into portions of NW AL. A low chance of showers (20% or less)
continues overnight into the early morning hours for portions of
Cullman, Morgan, Lawrence, Franklin (AL), Colbert, and Lauderdale
counties. However, most locations are forecast to remain dry
overnight into Monday.

Low temperatures are forecast to drop into the low to mid 60s
accompanied by winds around 5-10 mph with occasionally higher
gusts. Despite clearing skies in northeast AL and portions of
southern middle TN, winds should mitigate fog formation overnight.
However, confidence in this is low and the forecast may need to
be adjusted if winds decrease. No major changes were made to the
previous forecast as it remains on track.

.SHORT TERM...
(Monday through Wednesday)
Issued at 123 PM CDT Sun Sep 15 2024

To start off the work week, the Tennessee Valley will be located
in between the remnant convergence boundary to our west and a
tropical like wave off the Carolina coast. As a result, subsidence
in between these two features will allow for mostly sunny skies
and dry conditions. Temperatures will be near climatological norms
for this time of year with afternoon highs in the mid 80s and
overnight lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s. A welcomed changed
after the last several cloudy and rainy days.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday night through Saturday)
Issued at 223 AM CDT Sun Sep 15 2024

Sandwiched between weak troughing on either side at the mid
levels, high pressure to our NE will remain the dominant feature
through the long term forecast. This will continue our string of
mundane weather with virtually no rain chances and clear skies
each day supported by the high and dry airmass. With a mostly
unchanged airmass in place through the duration of the long term,
highs will remain in the mid to high 80s each day with lows
gradually increasing from the low 60s to the high 60s by the end
of the period.

.AVIATION...
(00Z TAFS)
Issued at 617 PM CDT Sun Sep 15 2024

Predominately VFR CIGS are expected at both terminals through the
period. There is a low chance (~30%) that a light shower could
impact either terminal, but only included VCSH at terminals (KHSV
until 1Z and KMSL until 4Z. Winds will likely stay up a bit early
this evening around 10 knots gusting to 15 knots. Leaving fog or
any VSBY reductions due to fog out for now at both terminals, with
low confidence concerning how much clearing we will see tonight
into early Monday morning and expected winds.
