...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1889, a pair of powerful tornadoes struck Central
Kansas.  The first twister, an F3 with a track 5 miles
long, leveled 2 farms between 8 and 5 miles southwest of
McPherson.  The second was a violent F4.  It`s track was
25 miles long and around 440 yards wide as it tore
through Marion and Chase counties.  This second twister
destroyed ten farms.  On one of the farms, every building
was swept away.  The second twister killed 2 people and
injured 4.
