.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1120 AM EDT Thu May 30 2024
Yet another morning of brief scattered shower and thunderstorm
activity over the Florida Bay and portions of the Upper Keys. This
activity has slowly decayed over the past hour. Outside of that
activity, skies are mostly sunny across the Florida Keys island
chain and the adjacent nearshore and offshore coastal waters.
With the exception of any rain-cooled spots, temperatures are
already reaching the upper 80s at many communities. Coupled with
dew points in the mid 70s, heat indices are in the upper 90s at
many locations.

For this afternoon, light and variable winds coupled with daytime
heating will likely promote the formation of a broken cumulus
cloud line over portions of the Lower and Middle Keys. In
addition, a weak shortwave pushing across Florida will likely
enhance diurnally- favored convection over the South Florida
Mainland that may then dive outflow boundaries southward towards
the Keys this evening. These convective evolutions and trends will
be monitored. Given the uncertainty, the relatively dry air
sampled in the 12z sounding at KEY, and the largely mesoscale
nature of these convective sources, slight rain and thunder
chances seem appropriate for now. No changes proposed to the
inherited forecast at this time.

.MARINE...
Issued at 1120 AM EDT Thu May 30 2024
Light to gentle, occasionally variable breezes are
expected this afternoon. High pressure currently over south-
central Canada will emerge off the Mid-Atlantic coast by the end
of the work week. This will result in fresh northeast to east
breezes beginning as early as Friday night, lasting through early
next week. A Small Craft Advisory may be required for portions or
all of the Florida Keys beginning as early as Friday night,
continuing through Sunday.

.AVIATION...

Issued at 1120 AM EDT Thu May 30 2024
VFR conditions will prevail at both island terminals through the TAF
period. Near surface winds are light and variable but will become 5
to 10 knots and easterly early this evening.
