102 FZUS63 KMKX 230154 GLFLM OPEN LAKE FORECAST for Lake Michigan National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI 854 PM CDT Sun Sep 22 2024 FOR WATERS BEYOND FIVE NAUTICAL MILES OF SHORE ON Lake Michigan. Waves are provided as a range of significant wave heights, which is the average of the highest 1/3 of the wave, along with the average height of the highest 10% of the waves which will occasionally be encountered. .SYNOPSIS... Apart from the Tuesday evening & night period, predominantly north to northeast winds will prevail over the open waters through the upcoming week. Current gusty winds will persist through Monday afternoon as 29.9 inch low pressure shifts toward Lake Erie and 30.0 inch high pressure builds into the northern Great Plains. Persistent waves in the 6-10 feet range will accompany gusts, particularly over the southern half of the open waters. Gusts will taper late Monday afternoon & night as the northern Great Plains high pressure builds into the Lake Michigan vicinity. The next chance for rain arrives Tuesday morning ahead of an upper disturbance, with only slight chances for thunderstorms over the far southern portions of the lake. A broad area of 30.0 inch high pressure will be dominant surface feature regionally through mid to late week, helping to maintain north-northeast breezes. Additional rain chances arrive by next weekend.
