Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
205 PM SST Sat Jun 8 2024

.Short term...
Latest satellite data shows a dry and stable airmass dominating
in the area due to a strong ridge from the south. This feature
continues to produce breezy trade winds, and short-lived showers
with any moisture that moves in the area. However, as dry air
from the south persists through Tuesday, expect Isolated showers
for this duration.

.Long term...
The strength of the aforementioned ridge will finally weaken over
the territory Tuesday night as it migrates further east. This
pattern will shift winds east, while moisture gradually increases
through Thursday. Expect an uptick in showers Thursday night as a
boundary develops along the ridge and over the American Samoa
chain. Scattered to numerous showers and east winds of 10 to 20
mph will remain through the rest of the forecast period.

.Marine...
The south swell that brought extremely high surfs and hazardous
rip currents this past Wednesday has completely subsided in our
area. However, breezy conditions continues to generate rough seas
for the territory. A High Surf Advisory and Small Craft Advisory
remains in effect as wave heights are slightly above 9 feet via
SoFAR Drift Buoy data (threshold being 8 feet for small crafts and
10 feet for high surfs). Expect combined seas to remain in
advisory thresholds tonight through Monday before another strong
set of swells moves through the area. Models anticipate wave
heights reaching warning criteria for surfs with this event. There
is a chance for the territory to experience similar impacts that
was seen Wednesday.
