783 FXUS65 KREV 102131 AFDREV Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Reno NV 231 PM PDT Mon Jun 10 2024 .SYNOPSIS... Temperatures will begin to heat up once again on Tuesday through Thursday with high temperatures approaching the triple digits across W.Nevada. Areas along and south of US-50 may also see a slight chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms through this evening and again tomorrow. A cooling trend with increased winds looks likely going into the weekend. && .DISCUSSION... After a minor dip in temperatures over the past few days, the heat will be on the increase once again as afternoon highs return to near record territory on Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will return into the upper 90s across western Nevada with hotter valleys touching the 100 degree mark each afternoon. Overnight lows will also be near record warm territory as lows are expected to run 10-15F above average. As such, this will result in widespread moderate heat risks with isolated major heat risks across the hottest W.Nevada valleys. However, there are signals for a cooling pattern over the weekend with temperatures even cooling down to near average for the second half of next weekend. Daytime heating may also fire a few showers and isolated thunderstorms each afternoon with the best chances targeting around midweek thanks to increasing diffluence aloft associated with a closed low tracking across the southwestern U.S. Overall looking at 10-15% chances mainly along Sierra south of US-50 this afternoon with chances creeping as far north as the Pine Nuts in Douglas County on Tuesday. Precipitation chances will be more limited on Wednesday with Thursday`s storm prospects largely governed by the track of the closed low. These storms will be capable of small hail, brief heavy rains, and gusty outflow winds. While typical afternoon westerly zephyr winds are expected each afternoon, we could see some enhancement to these winds by Friday afternoon/evening as a dry cold front tracks into the region. Southwesterly gusts in the 25-35 mph range are possible with up to 40 mph in wind prone areas. Sierra ridgetops could also see gusts around 50 mph. This could create some choppy conditions across area lakes along with cross wind issues for high profile vehicles Friday afternoon. Fuentes && .AVIATION... * VFR conditions will prevail through Tuesday with light afternoon west breezes prevailing. * Cumulus build-ups are expected along the Sierra with generally less than a 10% chance of and isolated shower or thunderstorm at KTVL and KMMH. A slight increase northward is possible Tuesday with 10-15% chances for KTVL, KMEV, and KMMH. Storms are capable of gusts up to 40kts, small hail, and lightning. * Density altitude impacts may increase Tuesday-Thursday as afternoon highs increase to 15-20 degrees above average. && .REV Watches/Warnings/Advisories...
