.SYNOPSIS...
Slight cooling is expected this weekend before slow warming
develops on Monday. Extensive night and morning low clouds will
cover the coast and valleys each day, with low clouds persisting
at the coast into the afternoons. Gusty onshore winds will occur
this afternoon and Sunday afternoon over the mountains and
deserts.

Evening Update...
Gusty west winds are ongoing through the passes this evening,
strongest at Whitewater where it`s currently gusting to 62 mph.
Aside from that standout spot, most gusts are around 35-50 mph in
the passes, and much weaker elsewhere. Winds will gradually weaken
overnight, but similar winds are expected again tomorrow afternoon
and evening. Closer to the coast, it should be a surprise to no
one that the marine layer has begun to spread back inland. The 00Z
KNKX shows the marine layer inversion based near 1800 ft MSL,
down from around 2600 ft MSL this morning. A weak coastal eddy and
an approaching upper level trough should help deepen the marine
layer again overnight. Hi-res guidance suggests isolated light
showers or drizzle overnight again, mainly for the coastal areas.


Previous discussion...
Temperatures will fall a few degrees for tomorrow,
with highs reaching the upper-60s to low-70s across the coast and
western valleys, the upper-70s to low-80s in the Inland Empire,
the 70s in the mountains, near 90 in the High Desert and the
low-100s in the lower deserts.

The shortwave strengthens and detaches from the mean flow early
next week and parks off the coast of northern Baja California for
the following several days. The most noticeable impacts from the
low will be the increasing high clouds across the region, and
will also help maintain extensive night and morning low clouds
across the coast and valleys. Small changes in the depth of the
marine layer will occur each day, impacting how far inland the
clouds will progress and the amount of time it will take to clear
each day. Ridging to the north will support slow warming on Monday
and Tuesday, with little day-to-day changes in the temperature
for Wednesday through Friday.

090300Z...Coast/Valleys...Low clouds spreading inland at this hour,
with bases 1200-1500 ft MSL and tops to 2500 ft MSL. CIG impacts
currently at the 3 coastal TAF sites. 45 to 55 percent chance for
CIG impacts at KONT and KSBD after 08Z. Low clouds likely to spread
inland to the foothills by 15Z, obscuring higher terrain with 1-3SM
VIS where clouds and terrain intersect. Expect inland clearing 15Z-
18Z and only partial clearing at the coast 18Z-21Z Sunday.

Mountains/Deserts...FEW-SCT250 and unrestricted VIS through Sun
morning. W-NW winds peaking this evening with gusts 25-30kts at
times.
