Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service San Diego CA
229 AM PDT Wed Jun 12 2024

.SYNOPSIS...
Generally seasonal weather will continue through next week with
hot dry days for inland areas with the marine layer keeping
coastal areas cooler. Night and morning coastal low clouds will
spread into portions of the valleys, then clear to near the coast
each afternoon. A little cooler for Thursday, warmer for Friday
and Saturday with Saturday the warmest day, then cooler for Sunday
through Tuesday. There will be gusty southwest to west winds for
the mountains and deserts each late afternoon through late
evening.

.DISCUSSION...FOR EXTREME SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA INCLUDING ORANGE...
SAN DIEGO...WESTERN RIVERSIDE AND SOUTHWESTERN SAN BERNARDINO
COUNTIES...

.SHORT TERM (Today through Friday)...
High temperatures today for the coast and valleys will be several
degrees warmer than Tuesday as the marine layer becomes
shallower. Thursday will be a few degrees cooler for most areas to
around 5 degrees cooler for the valleys as a weak low pressure
system moves inland through southern California late Thursday.

High temperatures near the coast will be slightly warmer on Friday
to as much as 4 to 8 degrees warmer for the mountains and for the
Apple and Lucerne Valleys. These high temperatures will be around
10 degrees above average for the deserts and around 5 degrees
above average for the inland valleys. Night and morning coastal
low clouds will spread into portions of the valleys each night,
then clear to near the coast each afternoon.

&&

.LONG TERM (Saturday through Tuesday)...
The warming will continue into Saturday with Saturday the warmest
day for most areas for the next week with warmest high
temperatures for the lower deserts of around 114 and in the upper
90s for easternmost portions of the Inland Empire. The heat risk
from the current forecast would be sufficient for an Excessive
Heat Warning for the lower deserts on Saturday, but not quite
sufficient on Friday.

A low pressure system moving inland through the western states
will strengthen the onshore flow and spread cooling inland for
Sunday and Monday with Sunday around 4 to 8 degrees cooler than
Saturday and Sunday slightly cooler near the coast to another 5 or
so degrees cooler for inland areas. The deserts may continue to
cool another degree or two on Tuesday while the coast into the
valleys begins to slowly warm. Those high temperatures for Monday
and Tuesday are a few degrees below average at lower elevations to
around 4 to 8 degrees below average for the inland valleys with
warmest high temperatures for the lower deserts of 105 or less and
for the Inland Empire in the upper 80s.
