928 FXUS65 KVEF 092039 AFDVEF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Las Vegas NV 139 PM PDT Sun Jun 9 2024 .SYNOPSIS...Temperatures will remain 5-10 degrees above normal through next weekend with Tuesday and Wednesday highlighted as the hottest days of the period. Otherwise, conditions will remain dry with periodic cloud cover and occasional breezy afternoon winds. && .DISCUSSION...through next weekend. Our area will continue to experience above normal temperatures through at least, the next 7 days with high temperatures expected to be 5-10 degrees above normal each day through next Sunday. Tuesday and Wednesday are forecast to be the hottest days of the week when temperatures could again challenge local records. A Excessive Heat Watch extending from Death Valley National Park to Las Vegas and Kingman is in effect for both days. A low pressure system develops off the southern California and northern Baja coast later today into Monday when an area of low pressure becomes disconnected from the main flow, stagnates, and churns over the open waters through the middle of the week. Synoptic weather features then work together to snag the low and pull it inland over the southwestern states on Thursday. This will result in decreasing but still anomalous temperatures for later in the week and over the weekend. The model trend for the beginning of the following week continues to favor above normal temperatures && .AVIATION...For Harry Reid...Wind components may vary from 160-200 degrees with gusts 20-24 knots through late afternoon then should become settled from 200-210 degrees by sunset as speeds decrease to around 8 knots and persist overnight. Light and variable winds Monday morning will become east-southeast 6-8 knots during the afternoon. No significant clouds below 20 kft. For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...South-southwest winds with gusts 20-25 knots will persist across most of the area through late afternoon then decrease to less than 10 knots after sunset and overnight. The exception will be KDAG where west winds gusting 20-25 knots will occur 00Z-09Z. Diurnal winds generally less than 10 knots can be expected Monday. High clouds will become few-scattered overnight through Monday. && .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT...Spotters are encouraged to report any significant weather or impacts according to standard operating procedures. && $$ DISCUSSION...Salmen AVIATION...Adair For more forecast information...see us on our webpage: https://weather.gov/lasvegas or follow us on Facebook and Twitter
