052 NOUS41 KWBC 141720 PNSWSH Service Change Notice 24-65 National Weather Service Headquarters Silver Spring MD 120 PM EDT Fri Jun 14 2024 To: Subscribers: -NOAA Weather Wire Service -Emergency Managers Weather Information Network -NOAAPort Other NWS Partners, Users, and Employees From: Mike Farrar, Director National Centers for Environmental Prediction Subject: Upgrade NCEP Global Forecast System to v16.3.16, Effective June 26, 2024 Effective June 26, 2024, beginning with the 1200 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) run, the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) will upgrade the Global Forecast System (GFS) from version 16.3.15 to 16.3.16. This GFS upgrade adds a new job, gdaswdqms, in the GFS Data Assimilation System (GDAS).It generates 6-hourly summaries of observation reports, which contain information on time, location, station identification, quality flag, and background departure statistics (innovations) from GDAS analysis for radiosonde, surface data over land, and marine data. The objective of this new job is to support the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Integrated Global Observing System (WIGOS), WDQMS (WIGOS Data Quality Monitoring System) project and ensure that WMO observational data and products are reliable and correspond to agreed-upon needs. The addition of GDAS WDQMS processing does not impact GFS scientific results and existing products. It adds the following three WDQMS products in Comma-separated Values (CSV) format for each 6-hourly analysis cycle (HH): gdas.tHHz.temp.csv gdas.tHHz.synop.csv gdas.tHHz.marine.csv The WDQMS products will be available on the NOAA Operational Model Archive and Distribution System (NOMADS) and FTPPRD web services at the following locations: https://nomads.ncep.noaa.gov/pub/data/nccf/com/gfs/prod/gdas.YYYYMMDD /HH/a tmos/wdqms https://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/data/nccf/com/gfs/v16.3/gdas.YYYMMDD/HH/atm os/wd qms ftp://ftp.ncep.noaa.gov/data/nccf/com/gfs/v16.3/gdas.YYYMMDD/HH/atmos /wdqm s Please submit comments, questions, or requests on the proposed upgrade to: Daryl Kleist, Chief Data Assimilation Division Modeling and Data Assimilation Branch NWS/NCEP/Environmental Modeling Center Email: daryl.kleist@noaa.gov For questions regarding the data flow, please contact: Tony Salemi NCEP Central Operations HPC Dataflow Team Lead (Acting) College Park, MD ncep.pmb.dataflow@noaa.gov National Service Change Notices are online at: https://www.weather.gov/notification/
