Issued at 544 PM MDT Fri Jun 21 2024 VFR through the TAF period. A couple things to note in the near term. A weak outflow boundary is situated near FNL-GXY and is slowly sinking south. This could bring a brief/weak wind shift to DEN/BJC this evening. High-resolution models support this but are also struggling with convection (and the lack of convection) to the north. Similarly, another round of weaker showers is possible later this evening but confidence in this is also pretty low at the time. Will need to watch trends this evening to see if either/both of these features will be more impactful than the current TAF suggests. Quiet weather is expected overnight with generally light drainage flow. Winds will remain weak tomorrow and shift towards the north/northeast in the afternoon. High-based, gusty showers will be possible in the later afternoon hours. (00Z TAFS) Issued at 647 PM CDT Fri Jun 21 2024 Rain showers and isolated thunderstorms are dwindling currently and should cease no later than 02z. Overnight hours are expected to remain calm with fair weather. A further round of rain showers and thunderstorms will impact portions of the panhandles late Saturday afternoon to evening. KDHT is currently the only TAF site to reflect Saturday rain showers but KAMA and KGUY still have a small chance to be impacted as well. Conditions will remain VFR across the panhandles and at all terminals for the rest of today through Saturday. However conditions may drop to MVFR with the passage of a rain shower, even brief IFR cannot be fully ruled out if the shower is intense enough. Gusty winds this evening will weaken for the overnight hours before becoming gusty again at during the mid to later morning hours of Saturday. These winds will then weaken again for the afternoon and evening hours of Saturday. As the winds weaken KGUY may loose its wind direction for Saturday. This is currently creating rain showers and thunderstorms that are widely scattered across the state impacting many of the TAF sites. Conditions will generally remain VFR but the heavier rain showers and thunderstorms can reduce conditions to MVFR and possibly even to IFR if intense enough. While the chance of strong to severe thunderstorms is decreasing, a few may still occur with large hail and winds in excess of 50kt being the main threat. Currently the TAF sites have a very low chance of seeing any strong or severe thunderstorm pass directly over. Going through the evening hours the rain showers and thunderstorms in eastern NM will cease.
