.SYNOPSIS...High pressure across the eastern Gulf will support
light to moderate southeasterly winds and slight seas today.
Hurricane Helene is currently moving north-northwestward in the
Gulf of Mexico and is expected later today, or tonight, to take
on a north-northeastward track through the eastern Gulf of Mexico
and make landfall as a major hurricane on the coast of the Florida
Big Bend tomorrow evening. Resulting swell will begin to arrive
to the lower Texas coast tomorrow morning. Meanwhile, a weak cold
front is expected to pass through the Lower Texas Coast tonight
into tomorrow morning, followed by a brief period of moderate to
fresh northerly winds later tonight through tomorrow evening. The
combined effects of the wind and swell will result in enhanced
wave heights beginning tomorrow morning and continuing through
Friday. Small Craft Should Exercise Caution headlines for seas may
be needed Thursday through Friday night. Favorable conditions
look to return Saturday.
