Through 430 am, a scattered showers with some embedded thunderstorms will develop in the Straits of Florida and move northeast at near 10 knots towards the island chain and its nearshore waters. The northern portion of these showers will cross the Upper Keys and then into the Florida Bay. Mariners encountering the stronger portions of this activity can expect bouts of moderate to heavy rainfall reducing visibilities, wind gusts up to near 25 knots, and occasional lightning strikes. Island communities from Long Key to Key Largo may see from a quarter to a half an inch of rainfall. $$
