Through 200 pm, scattered showers and isolated embedded thunderstorms will increase in coverage and intensity across the coastal waters of the Florida Keys and in the vicinity of the island chain. Movement of this activity will be slow and erratic. Mariners encountering the strongest activity in the distant, eastern Straits of Florida south of the Upper Keys can expect brief bouts of moderate to heavy rainfall reducing visibilities, wind gusts 20 to 25 knots, and a few cloud to surface lightning strikes. Island communities between Sugarloaf Key and Big Pine Key in the Lower Keys can expect between a quarter and one half of an inch of rainfall due to the slow movement of this activity. $$
