769 FXUS64 KLCH 182008 AFDLCH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 308 PM CDT Wed Sep 18 2024 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION, MARINE... .SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Friday night) Issued at 308 PM CDT Wed Sep 18 2024 Away from the very isolated few showers in Lower Acadiana, it`s calm, quiet and hot. High pressure developing overtop east Texas has brought about slightly warmer and drier conditions today, and as the high continues expanding overhead, this trend will continue to the end of the work week. Temperatures have warmed into the upper 80s to low 90s today which is only 1 to 2 degrees above climatological normal. The warming trend will continue Thursday and Friday with area wide low 90s expected each day. 11/Calhoun && .LONG TERM... (Saturday through next Tuesday) Issued at 308 PM CDT Wed Sep 18 2024 The long range portion of the forecast remains essentially unchanged from yesterday with our mostly dry and mainly warm pattern continuing. A mid/upper-level ridge initially extending from Old Mexico through cntl/ern TX into the Mid-South is progged to gradually shift ewd across the forecast area in response to a trof digging ewd past the Rockies. Meanwhile, sfc ridging initially centered over the East Coast will gradually shift ewd, maintaining an onshore low-level flow. The result will be dry and warm conditions continuing through the weekend. By the time we get into next Tuesday, model solutions indicate the trof will have shifted ewd enough to break down the ridge and allow for the capping to cease enough for the potential for a few showers/storms on Tuesday/Wednesday. Highs Friday/Saturday look to run in the lower 90s as ridging reigns supreme before a slow drop back into the upper 80s by Tuesday with the onset of better moisture/cloud cover. 25 && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 308 PM CDT Wed Sep 18 2024 Very isolated showers have developed near AEX, ARA and LFT, which should be very shallow and tepid in nature. Otherwise, dry conditions, variable winds and VFR skies have been noted this afternoon. Expect conditions to improve after 01Z with the end of daytime heating. Calm winds and mostly clear skies overnight could result in area-wide patchy ground fog to 4 to 5 SM. Improving VIS and north winds will occur after sunrise, or around 14Z. High pressure over the region will limit low cloud and shower development. 11/Calhoun && .MARINE... Issued at 308 PM CDT Wed Sep 18 2024 Expect dry, calm conditions as well as low winds and seas to prevail through the end of the work week as high pressure ridges in overhead. The pressure gradient tightens late into the weekend as an upper disturbance nears the region. This should result in a gradual increase of winds and seas by Sunday. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
