575 FXUS64 KMAF 240714 AFDMAF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 214 AM CDT Mon Jun 24 2024 ...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM... .SHORT TERM... (Today through Tuesday afternoon) Issued at 130 AM CDT Mon Jun 24 2024 There isn`t much to say that hasn`t been said already about this week. Temperatures will climb to the upper 90s and lower 100s this afternoon nearly everywhere minus the higher terrain. While not hot enough yet for heat products, you should still take plenty of breaks from the sun and drink lots of water. An isolated storm or two is possible in the Davis Mountains, but it stays dry elsewhere. Very little changes Tuesday regarding temperatures with highs likely a couple of degrees hotter. Monsoonal moisture will pool to our west and with daytime heating expect isolated storms to develop further north into the Guadalupe and Sacramento Mountains by afternoon. Given a dry subcloud layer, gusty winds will be possible with any storm. && .LONG TERM... (Tuesday night through Sunday) Issued at 130 AM CDT Mon Jun 24 2024 Upper ridging will begin to flatten across the South midweek, but hot temperatures will remain in place. Nearly everyone could reach 100 Wednesday except for the higher terrain. Heat products will be possible, especially for the Rio Grande where temperatures look to climb near 110 degrees. Storm chances continue to trend upward out west Wednesday as a disturbance looks to move across the higher terrain out of Mexico. At least scattered showers and storms can be expected; some with locally heavy rain. The upper ridge expands late in the week stretching across the entire southern U.S. Temperatures each afternoon will remain similar with highs generally near or above 100 for most; cooler in the mountains. Monsoonal moisture will continue across western areas where subsidence is less leading to a daily occurrence of scattered showers and storms into the weekend. Model guidance is somewhat split, but a weak front could makes its way into the TX PH this weekend. If storms form along this front, it could push it further south than models indicate now. Will monitor for better rain chances and slightly cooler temperatures! && .AVIATION...
