Areas affected...northeastern Montana

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 420...

Valid 160126Z - 160230Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 420
continues.

SUMMARY...Risk of damaging winds increasing with eastward
propagating line of severe storms across eastern Montana.

DISCUSSION...A line of thunderstorms across eastern Montana has
recently shown an increase in lightning activity, cooling cloud
tops, and forward propagation speed. A recent report of a measured
gust to 79 mph was observed near Fort Peck, MT. This line of storms
will progress eastward into more favorable instability and
steepening mid-level lapse rates. In addition, surface observations
indicate better moisture with dew points in the mid 50s to 60s and
temperatures in the low to mid 80s across far eastern Montana. The
threat for damaging winds is increasing, with potential for gusts
60-70 mph with some instances of 75+ mph.
