378 FXUS65 KPIH 201959 AFDPIH Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pocatello ID 159 PM MDT Thu Jun 20 2024 .SHORT TERM...Tonight through Fri night. A low amplitude trough will move across the US-CAN border during the day Fri to generate some afternoon/evening showers and thunderstorms along the entire length of the ID-WY border on Fri/Fri night. Otherwise, just expect some clouds above the 550mb level for this period, some of the areas being mostly cloudy at times in the north, but most locations at partly cloudy/partly sunny, or even some mostly sunny. Very little in the way of wind, but the persistent northeast and east surface flow will be shifted by this trough to southwest and west Fri afternoon. Since the cloud cover is high clouds, it should not interfere with the strong warming expected, 4 to 8 deg F compared to this Thu afternoon. Do not see anything that requires headlines for this period. Messick .LONG TERM...Saturday through Thursday. Main impacts in the long term will generally be the hot weather especially over the weekend. Highs will be in the 90s both Saturday and Sunday in the Snake Plain and Magic Valley with 80s in the mountains for the most part. Will see some slight cooling Monday into Wednesday but highs in low elevations remaining in the lower 90s for the most part with mountain highs in the mid 70s to mid 80s. It will be dry through Tuesday night with the model blend adding in some slight chances of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday and Thursday in the eastern highlands and central mountains. Expect winds to increase substantially Sunday and expect breezy to occasionally windy conditions Sunday through next Thursday. GK && .FIRE WEATHER... Main impacts will be some isolated thunderstorms Friday afternoon mainly in zones 476, 411, and 413. Will be none most likely in the other zones. Will have dry conditions Saturday through Wednesday with very hot conditions as well with high temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above normal. Minimum humidity will be 10 to 20 percent through Wednesday as well. Next chance for convection will be next Thursday mainly again in the extreme east. Wind will increase substantially Sunday and will have some breezy to windy conditions Sunday through next Thursday. Wind speeds will be 15 to 30 mph most likely through that period in the afternoons.
