Tropical Weather Discussion
National Weather Service Tiyan GU

Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between
the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is
based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar,
and meteorological analysis.

...SPECIAL FEATURES...

None.

...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS...

TRADE-WIND TROUGHS...
The trade-wind troughs are concentrated mainly within a convergence
zone hugging the 10N latitude that are feeding into an ITCZ-like
feature in far western Pacific. The most distinguishable features
are producing quick-moving showers, thunderstorms and strong outflow
boundaries east of Palau, across much of Yap State, and western
Chuuk. These troughs are expected to continue to move west and north,
shifting the convergence zone away from Yap State.

TUTT...
A Tropical Upper-Tropospheric Trough (TUTT) enters the region near
20N180, to then extend west to a TUTT cell near 17N153E well east of
Alamagan, then extending further across the northern Marianas before
ending well north-northwest of Yap. Little to moderate convection is
associated with this feature, producing some thunderstorms as it
interacts with surface features northwest of Pohnpei and northeast of
Chuuk. The aforementioned TUTT cell is expected to continue to trek
west, crossing the far Northern Marianas by Sunday, followed by
further degradation in the TUTT through the first half of next week.

...ITCZ-LIKE PATTERN...
A convergence zone extends from at least 10N130E southeast across
Palau, moving further east-southeast across eastern Yap State to end
near Kapingamarangi in southern Pohnpei State. Little convection is
associated with the feature itself, but accompanying flow is allowing
convectively active trade-wind troughs to form along its eastern
peripheries that are bringing significant showers, thunderstorms and
gust boundaries to much of western Micronesia. The feature is
expected to degrade through the day, allowing doldrums to form that
may last through the first half of next week.
