***HELENE TO MAKE LANDFALL AS A MAJOR HURRICANE ALONG THE BIG BEND
COAST THIS EVENING.***

***A STORM SURGE WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR COASTAL WAKULLA COUNTY...

.DISCUSSION...

Major Hurricane Helene will make landfall somewhere along the FL Big
Bend this evening. This is an unprecedented event, especially for
those under the hurricane warning. Impacts will be significant and
life threatening in the FL Big Bend, especially with respect to
wind and surge. In addition to that, considerable to catastrophic
flash flooding is possible due to recent wet rains and the size of
Major Hurricane Helene. The next forecast package to be release in
regards to Helene is 5PM ET. Below are the details for the
peak winds with Helene; however, there is the potential we could
experience higher winds of greater than 110 mph.

- Peak Wind Forecast: 60-80 mph with gusts to 100 mph
        - Window for Tropical Storm force winds: until early Friday
          morning
        - Window for Hurricane force winds: early this evening until
          early Friday morning

- Storm Surge Forecast: Life-threatening and historic storm
      surge possible
        - Peak Storm Surge Inundation: The potential for 16-20 feet
          above ground somewhere within surge prone areas
        - Window of concern: through Friday morning

- Flooding Rain Forecast: Flood Watch is in effect
        - Peak Rainfall Amounts: Additional 3-6 inches, with locally
          higher amounts

- Tornado Forecast: Tornado Watch is in effect
        - Situation is somewhat favorable for tornadoes
