591 FZUS52 KTAE 151541 SRFTAE Surf Zone Forecast National Weather Service Tallahassee FL 1141 AM EDT Sat Jun 15 2024 .THE SURF ZONE FORECAST GENERAL OUTLOOK... Late this morning, offshore buoys were observing 1 to 2 foot seas and east winds at 10 knots, supporting a continued forecast of a moderate risk of rip currents today. Such conditions are reflected on web cams which show some surf, but nothing aggressive. Development of a nearshore afternoon seabreeze will increase surf heights to near 2 feet, but these will be lower-energy locally-generated wind waves. Surf heights and rip risk will increase sharply tonight and Sunday morning, in response to development of a large area of moderate southeast breezes over the eastern Gulf. Monday through Wednesday will be characterized by a prolonged period of unseasonably strong easterly breezes, which will keep the rip current risk squarely in the high category. As such, a pre-emptive long-duration Rip Current Statement was issued given our high confidence.
