METEOROLOGICAL FALL (SEPTEMBER THROUGH NOVEMBER) 2019 FEATURED SLIGHTLY BELOW AVERAGE TEMPERATURES. PRECIPITATION WAS MORE VARIABLE RANGING FROM 65 TO 100 PERCENT OF NORMAL ACROSS THE DOWNEAST REGION AND CENTRAL HIGHLANDS AND FROM 125 TO 150 PERCENT OF NORMAL FOR MOST AREAS FROM THE KATAHDIN REGION NORTH TO THE SAINT JOHN VALLEY. SNOWFALL WAS ABOVE AVERAGE, ESPECIALLY NORTH AND WEST OF BANGOR. IT RANKED AS THE 11TH SNOWIEST FALL ON RECORD IN CARIBOU WITH 23 INCHES OF SNOW. SEPTEMBER FEATURED TEMPERATURES THAT RANGED FROM 0.5 TO 1.5 DEGREES BELOW AVERAGE ACROSS THE REGION. THE FIRST WIDESPREAD FROST/FREEZES ACROSS THE NORTH OCCURRED ON THE MORNINGS OF THE 18TH AND 19TH. RAINFALL RANGED FROM 70 TO 110 PERCENT OF AVERAGE, BUT LOCALLY UP T0 150 PERCENT OF AVERAGE ACROSS THE FAR NORTHEAST AND ALSO THE FAR SOUTHEAST IN WASHINGTON DUE TO PERIPHERAL RAIN FROM HURRICANE DORIAN WHICH PRODUCED UP TO 3 INCHES OF RAIN WASHINGTON COUNTY. TEMPERATURES IN OCTOBER RANGED FROM 1.5 TO 2.5 DEGREES ABOVE AVERAGE. WIDESPREAD FREEZES FINISHED THE GROWING SEASON FOR CENTRAL AND DOWNEAST ON THE 5TH AND 6TH. PRECIPITATION RANGED FROM 110 TO 150 PERCENT OF AVERAGE. VERY LIGHT SNOW WAS OBSERVED ON THE 4TH AND THE 26TH/27TH ACROSS NORTHERN AND CENTRAL AREAS. NOVEMBER WAS MUCH COLDER THAN AVERAGE AND TEMPERATURES RANGED FROM 3 TO 4 DEGREES BELOW AVERAGE. IRONICALLY, THE MONTH BEGAN WITH A HIGH OF 68 DEGREE EARLY ON THE MORNING OF THE 1ST, WHICH TIED FOR THE ALL- TIME WARMEST TEMPERATURE DURING THE MONTH. THERE WAS A BITTER COLD SNAP MID MONTH WITH A LOW OF 1 BELOW IN CARIBOU ON THE 17TH, WHICH WAS THE EARLIEST SUB-ZERO TEMPERATURE ON RECORD. PRECIPITATION RANGED FROM 90 TO 150 PERCENT OF AVERAGE WITH THE GREATEST POSITIVE DEPARTURES ACROSS THE FAR NORTH. SNOWFALL WAS ABOVE AVERAGE, MAINLY IN AREAS FROM BANGOR NORTH TO THE SAINT JOHN VALLEY. $$ CB/VJN
