932 FXUS64 KHGX 172326 AFDHGX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Houston/Galveston TX 626 PM CDT Tue Sep 17 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (This evening through Wednesday Night) Issued at 256 PM CDT Tue Sep 17 2024 Few to scattered cumulus clouds can be observed across SE Texas this afternoon. Mid-upper level ridging and subsidence should keep the area dry for the most part; however, could have isolated precipitation along the sea breeze (less than 20% chance). Temperature will continue to run a couple of degrees above normal for this time of year> Tomorrow, highs in the upper 80s along the coast and in the 90s inland. Lows for tonight and Wednesday night will be in the 70s to near 80 degrees. Adams && .LONG TERM... (Thursday through next Monday) Issued at 256 PM CDT Tue Sep 17 2024 The South Central CONUS remains well within the grip of a pronounced omega block pattern heading into the end of the week, with the synoptic pattern remains dominated by the presence of a ~590-592 dam midlevel ridge. As such, a warmer than normal but otherwise benign period can be expected to prevail through the weekend. Elevated midlevel heights continue to support the potential for slightly warmer than normal highs, with most locations remaining in the lower to mid 90s through the weekend and into next week. The potential for convection will be diminished given the presence of a subsidence inversion on forecast soundings as well as a slightly decreasing trend in available moisture. Limited rainfall potential will remain confined to the immediate coast and offshore heading into the weekend and into next week, though coverage of storms looks to be isolated at best. The blocking pattern looks to begin to break down heading into next week, suggesting the potential for more seasonally normal conditions. Maximum heat index values will still hover around the 100 mark during this time. As such, heat safety precautions should still be considered if spending any time outdoors. Cady && .AVIATION...
