Day 2 Fire Weather Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0208 PM CDT Tue Jun 25 2024

Valid 261200Z - 271200Z

An isolated dry-thunderstorm risk area has been introduced to parts
of northwest NV into far southeast OR. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms may be ongoing across the region by 12 UTC Wednesday.
While a weak lightning signal is noted in recent CAM guidance, a
subtle QPF signal coupled with weak buoyancy, fast storm motions,
and dry conditions between 0-2 km suggests a few dry lightning
strikes are likely with any thunderstorm that can develop. Given
antecedent dry fuels, dry lightning starts appear possible. Elevated
to locally critical fire weather conditions remain probable across
northwest NV/southeast OR in the wake of early-morning convection as
described in the previous discussion below.

...Synopsis...
A deepening surface pressure low near the ID/OR border is expected
to accompany a mid to upper-level Pacific trough moving onshore
Wednesday. The associated pressure gradient will tighten over the
Pacific states (in particular across western OR) yielding breezy
west to southwest surface winds ahead of an approaching cold front.
Some initial cloud cover early in the day may briefly inhibit
mixing, but clearer skies during the afternoon should allow for
momentum transfer of stronger flow from aloft aiding in higher wind
gusts. In addition, RH will drop into the low teens within this more
deeply mixed air mass ahead of the front, across portions of the
western and northwestern Great Basin. A few hours of elevated
conditions are expected here.
