125 FXUS64 KMAF 251122 AFDMAF Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX 622 AM CDT Wed Sep 25 2024 ...New AVIATION... .SHORT TERM... (Today through Thursday afternoon) Issued at 210 AM CDT Wed Sep 25 2024 The cold front that will usher in the return of a quiet and dry pattern is currently marching south through the Permian Basin early this morning. This front should reach the I-10 corridor around sunrise before clearing the rest of the region by early afternoon. Behind this front, a cooler and drier continental airmass is filtering in to the southern Great Plains replacing the warmer, moist airmass. Temperatures this morning remain mild across much of the region, despite the front, with 60s expected for most the area. Though, continued weak cold air advection brings afternoon temperatures down about 5 degrees from yesterday. Near normal temperatures in the 80s can be expected for all but the Rio Grande Valley, which remains hot with temperatures in the 90s. A cooler morning is expected tomorrow with upper 50s likely for many. Thursday afternoon should be nearly a carbon copy to this afternoon, though temperatures may be just a touch warmer. -Chehak && .LONG TERM... (Thursday night through Tuesday) Issued at 210 AM CDT Wed Sep 25 2024 Upper level high pressure will remain in place over the Four Corners into early next week. The high interacts with low pressure over the lower Mississippi River valley to keep West Texas and eastern New Mexico in dry northerly flow. Such a pattern means no rain chances with temperatures varying only a few degrees, remaining pretty close to climatological norms. An upper trough transiting the U.S./Canada border pushes a front south into the area next Tuesday that may be the next feature to affect our weather bringing in cooler temperatures. Hennig && .AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 619 AM CDT Wed Sep 25 2024 VFR conditions continue. A cold front has moved through the region bringing northeasterly winds to most terminals. Winds gradually become more easterly and eventually southeasterly later this afternoon and evening. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
