...HIGH FIRE DANGER CONDITIONS THIS AFTERNOON INTO THE EVENING FOR
PARTS OF CENTRAL AND EAST CENTRAL GEORGIA DUE TO LOW RELATIVE
HUMIDITIES...
Hot conditions are expected across north and central Georgia today.
Aside from the higher elevations of far northeast Georgia, highs
will rise into the upper 90s to low 100s this afternoon. These
temperatures, combined with lingering dry air at the low levels,
will contribute to minimum RH values below 25 percent in a portion
of the area extending from the Atlanta metro area as far south and
east as Swainsboro this afternoon. 10-hour fuels are also quite dry
across the forecast area, and dropped to between 4-7 percent
yesterday afternoon. Because of the low RH values and very dry
fuels, a Fire Danger Statement for this area for this afternoon and
evening. Mixing heights are forecast to range from 7500-9000 ft
during the peak heating hours this afternoon. Winds will be light
and variable this morning, becoming SW at 4-8 mph this afternoon.
A disturbance traversing through the area will bring scattered
showers and thunderstorms into the area on Thursday. Furthermore, SW
flow ahead of this disturbance will increase low-level moisture and
lead to noticeably higher RH values. Minimum RH values will range
from 45-60 percent on Thursday afternoon. Winds on Thursday will be
W to NW at 4-8 mph in north Georgia and SW at 6-12 mph in central
Georgia.
