Fire Weather Planning Forecast FOR S Cntrl and Sern Colorado
National Weather Service Pueblo Co
242 PM MDT Sun Jun 30 2024

.Discussion...

Critical fire weather is not expected for today through Wednesday as
weaker winds and daily chances for afternoon showers and
thunderstorms remain in the forecast through that timeframe. Some
storms today could be strong to severe, with 1 to 2 inch hail,
damaging winds gusting to 60 mph, and flash flooding all possible
with storms today.

Dry conditions return for Fourth of July, which will mean less
thunderstorm coverage for many, but marginal fire danger for some.
Our relative humidity values look to fall down into the single
digits and low to mid teens in a few places, including the La
Garitas, upper and middle Arkansas River Valley to include the
Pueblo area, along with Teller County, which could lead to
dangerously dry conditions for Holiday activities. Our wind forecast
is also beginning to trend towards slightly gustier westerly winds
on Thursday afternoon and Thursday evening as well, especially for
the mountains. This could mean high fire danger during Fourth of
July celebrations for several communities, including but not limited
to, Teller County, lower elevations of Lake and Chaffee County, the
La Garitas, and potentially Pueblo County as well, depending on our
wind forecast. This is still several days out, but is something we
are monitoring very closely.

Afternoon smoke dispersions will be generally very good or better
for the plains tomorrow, and poor to fair for the mountains. For
Tuesday, rates will be very good or better for the mountains, and
good or better for the plains.

--- thunderstorms imply strong gusty and erratic winds ---
