A low aloft northeast of the islands will drift northeast over the next day or so, then move west through the weekend. On this trajectory, the core of the low will pass over waters north of the islands this weekend. This low will bring the potential for increased low cloud and shower coverage, mainly Saturday through Sunday, with a slight chance of thunderstorms producing a few cloud to surface lightning strikes. Otherwise, the passage of the low aloft will have an effect on low-level winds, with subtle changes expected through the period. In summary, moderate trade winds may back to a more northeasterly direction in the short term, followed by some veering to the east-southeast Saturday night and Sunday as a weak and subtle low-level trough (associated with the low aloft) moves from east to west across the area. The low aloft will move north of the area Monday and Tuesday, eliminating the potential for heavy showers and/or thunderstorms, while also allowing trade winds to back to a more typical east-northeasterly direction. .TONIGHT...around 22N 158W Surface winds (kts).East winds (070 degrees) 12 to 15 knots.
