162 AGUS76 KRSA 251332 HMDRSA Hydrometeorological Discussion National Weather Service / California Nevada RFC / Sacramento CA 630 AM PDT Tue Jun 25 2024 ...SCATTERED SHOWERS AND T-STORMS THRU TOMORROW, BEST CHANCES OVER THE SIERRA INTO NV TODAY AND OVER NV WEDS... ...DRY CONDITIONS RETURN FOR THE END OF THE WEEK INTO THE WEEKEND WITH CONTINUED ABOVE NORMAL TEMPS... .METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS (TUE AM - MON AM)... Radar and satellite imagery showing some scattered showers moving into the Bay Area while lightning detection picked up some strikes and flashes both offshore and over land this morning. This is thanks to a large area of 1+" PW of moisture generally from I-80 southward across CA and srn NV as the region is settled between high pressure to the southeast and low pressure to the northwest. Mid level moisture and instability will allow for chances of scattered showers and thunderstorms today and tomorrow. Best chances of convection will be over the CA higher terrain and across NV today then over NV tomorrow. HREF exceedance probabilities show a 10-40% chance of 0.50+"/hr rain rates over parts of the Sierra this afternoon and evening. After Wednesday, the low approaching from the Gulf of Alaska will push the moisture away from our area followed by another low from the same location arriving over the weekend. This will return dry conditions to the region for the rest of the forecast period. As far as temperatures go, high pressure influence from the desert southwest and TX will keep afternoon highs generally 5-15 deg F above normal away from the coast for today. Some cooling is then expected tomorrow as the low over the Gulf of Alaska arrives along the PacNW pushing high pressure back inland the rest of the work week. The aforementioned second low will keep this pattern alive through the weekend and bring temperatures inland back closer to seasonal normals with patchy areas still 5+ deg F above normal. Coastal areas will see more notable cooling. Please Note: This product may NOT be routinely updated Friday through Sunday between Jun 1 and Oct 1.
