924 FZCA72 TJSJ 231740 MWSSJU Marine Weather Statement National Weather Service San Juan PR 140 PM AST Sun Jun 23 2024 AMZ711-712-741-742-232100- Atlantic Waters of Puerto Rico and USVI from 10 NM to 19.5N- Coastal Waters of Northern Puerto Rico out 10 NM- Mona Passage Southward to 17N- Coastal Waters of Northwestern Puerto Rico out 10 NM- 140 PM AST Sun Jun 23 2024 ...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL MOVE OVER THE WESTERN WATERS OF PUERTO RICO... At 137 PM AST, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots and frequent lightning. These thunderstorms were located over the coastal waters of western Puerto Rico, moving west around 10 knots. Additional thunderstorms are expected to develop across these waters and across the Atlantic waters of Puerto Rico during the rest of the afternoon hours. Isolated strong thunderstorms were also observed north of Anegada moving slowly west over the open offshore Atlantic waters. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until this storm passes. Intense lightning is occurring with this storm. If caught on the open water stay below deck if possible, keep away from ungrounded metal objects. $$
